Manali to Leh taxi guide
The road
Through the Atal Tunnel into Lahaul, past Sissu and Keylong to Jispa and Darcha, then up over Baralacha La to the plateau at Sarchu. Day two crosses the Gata loops, Nakee La and Lachulung La, runs across the More Plains and climbs to Tanglang La at 5,328 m before dropping to the Indus at Upshi and Leh. How many days does Manali to Leh take by taxi?
Two days is usual — about 428 km with a night at Jispa, Keylong or Sarchu. Doing it in one day is possible but tiring and bad for acclimatisation.
When is the Manali–Leh road open?
Usually from May to November, depending on snow on the passes — in 2025 and 2026 it reopened in mid-May. Dates change each year.
Is a sedan enough for the Manali–Leh road?
An SUV or MUV with good ground clearance, such as the Tavera, Innova or Scorpio class, is better for the broken stretches and water crossings.
