The guide
Manali to Rohtang, Solang & Atal Tunnel taxi guide
Two trips, two sets of rules
Solang, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu need no Rohtang permit. Up the valley to Solang’s snow and ropeway, on through Palchan to the tunnel’s south portal, 9.02 km under the Pir Panjal, and out into the Chandra valley at Sissu with its waterfall. A full and easy day.
Rohtang Pass is different. The road up through Kothi, Gulaba and Marhi to the 3,978 m pass is limited to a fixed number of vehicles each day under National Green Tribunal orders, permits are released online in slots, and the road is closed on Tuesdays. Plan Rohtang as its own day, and keep a spare in case the permit does not come through. Read the Rohtang permit guide and the Atal Tunnel guide, and check the pass calendar for when Rohtang opens.
