Solang Valley
Solang is a wide bowl at the head of the valley above Manali, with a ropeway and long open slopes. From mid-December it fills with snow and becomes the busiest snow play area in Himachal: sledges, snow scooters, and ski instructors with rental gear lined up at the bottom of the slope. Beginners can get a lesson on the gentle lower runs the same day.
Courses
For anything more than a taster, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports in Manali runs ski courses each winter.
The old high slopes
Our old adventure guide named Solang Nallah, Patalsu, Kothi, Marhi and Rohtang as the skiing areas around Manali, noting that Rohtang and Patalsu could be skied even in summer, and that Solang Nallah hosts the national ski championship. Rohtang’s season and access now depend on the daily permit; ask us before planning around it.
