Shimla–Manali trip — how many days do you need?
A Shimla–Manali trip needs five to six nights to be comfortable: two in Shimla, three in Manali, and the long road between them (about 240–265 km, most of a day). Four nights is possible but rushed; seven lets you add a Kullu–Manikaran day and a spare for Rohtang. Leisure Himachal runs it as a 5-night Volvo tour or a 6-night car tour from Delhi.

The distances
- Delhi → Shimla: about 350–385 km.
- Shimla → Manali: about 240–265 km, through Mandi and past the Pandoh dam.
- Manali → Delhi: about 540–580 km.
That is a lot of road, which is why the number of nights matters more than the number of sights.
Three ways to do it
Four nights (rushed). 1 Shimla · 3 Manali, with overnight buses both ways. Works only if you skip Kufri or Kullu.
Five nights (our Volvo tour). Overnight Volvo to Manali · 3 nights Manali (town, Rohtang/Solang, Kullu–Manikaran) · bus to Shimla · 2 nights Shimla (Kufri and the Mall) · overnight Volvo home. This is the Shimla Manali Volvo tour.

Volvo or car?
- Volvo: cheaper, no day lost to driving, but fixed times.
- Car: stop where you like, carry luggage, and travel as a group for less per head.

Quick answers
Is 4 days enough for Shimla and Manali?
Only just — you would spend much of it on the road. Five nights is the minimum we suggest; six or seven is more relaxed.
How far is Manali from Shimla?
About 240–265 km by road through Mandi, which takes most of a day by car or bus.
Should I visit Shimla or Manali first?
Either works. Shimla first eases you into the hills on a shorter drive from Delhi; Manali first gets the snow and Rohtang done while you are fresh.
