Kasol, Manikaran and the Parvati valley — a short guide
The Parvati valley branches east from the Kullu valley at Bhuntar. Kasol, at 1,580 m and 30 km up the valley, is a riverside village of cafés and guesthouses; Manikaran, 3.5 km further, has boiling hot springs, the Manikaran Sahib gurudwara and Shiva and Ram temples. Both are an easy day from Manali, and every Leisure Himachal Manali package includes them.

Getting there
From Manali, drive down the Kullu valley to Bhuntar (near the airport) and turn east up the Parvati. The road narrows into a gorge; Kasol is 30 km in, Manikaran 3.5 km beyond. Our Manali packages do it as a day: Kullu’s Vaishno Devi temple and shawl weavers on the way down, Kasol and Manikaran in the afternoon.
Kasol
A strip of guesthouses, bakeries and cafés along a fast blue-green river, pine forest on both banks. Walk across the bridge to Chalal for an hour’s riverside stroll. Busy with backpackers, quiet early in the morning.
Manikaran
Steam rises from the riverbank. The Manikaran Sahib gurudwara serves langar cooked with spring water; next to it are the Shiva and Ram temples, with separate hot baths for men and women.
Further up
Kheerganga — a long day’s walk to a meadow with a hot pool; Malana — the isolated village across the ridge; Tosh — the last village up the road.
When to go
March to June and September to November. The monsoon makes the valley road slippery; Kasol gets snow from late December to February.
