Why the overnight bus works

Delhi to Manali is too far for a comfortable day’s drive and there are few flights. The overnight Volvo solves it: you board after work, sleep through the plains, and wake up somewhere around Kullu with the river beside the road. No day is spent travelling.

Where buses leave from

• HRTC — Himachal Road Transport Corporation runs AC Volvo and other coaches from ISBT Kashmere Gate. Book on HRTC’s own site.
• Private operators — many, from pick-up points across Delhi. Our old package pages named pick-ups at New Delhi and at Chanderlok Building, Connaught Place; points change, so we confirm yours with the booking.

Tips

• Book early from mid-April to mid-July and at Christmas–New Year, when buses fill a week or two ahead.
• Take a warm layer — the AC runs cold and the last hours are in the mountains.
• Motion sickness: the last three hours from Mandi wind along the river. Sit near the front, eat lightly.
• Arrival: buses reach Manali around 7–9 am. Hotels’ check-in is often noon; ask for an early room or leave bags and go out.

Ticket alone or a package?

If you only need the seat, book directly.
